Bronze medal for the 300th anniversary of Bad Karlshafen (1699-1999), the town on the Weser founded by Landgrave Karl of Hesse-Kassel as a new home for Huguenot refugees from France.

Designed and struck by the German medallist Victor Huster of Baden-Baden, who has also designed German commemorative coins. Signed with his VH monogram on the reverse, and the edge is stamped "V. HUSTER BADEN BADEN". The same medal is held in German museum collections.

Obverse: portrait of Landgrave Karl in armour, "LANDGRAF KARL VON HESSEN KASSEL", with "KARLSHAFEN" in large letters around the rim and a fleur-de-lis.

Reverse: the Huguenot cross with its descending dove, between the dates 1699 and 1999.

Weight: 60.5 g. Comes with the base of its blue velvet case (the lid is missing).
