Description

Purity:0.5833333333333334
Condition:Used

An old hand-cut rose diamond reset in a 1960s to 70s modernist 14k yellow gold pendant. The stone is far older than its mount, likely 19th century, with the irregular outline, flat back and large triangular facets typical of Georgian and Victorian rose cuts. A small natural (unpolished rough) remains on the girdle, as the original cutter left it.

The pendant is a sculptural spoon or paddle form: a brushed, textured bar bail flowing into a polished teardrop plate, with the diamond held in a four-prong open-back setting so light passes through the stone.

Details

  • Stone: rose cut diamond, approx. 4.5 × 4 mm (est. 0.25 ct), near-colorless, lightly included (feathers and clouds visible under magnification, characteristic of the period)

  • Metal: 14k yellow gold

  • Weight: 0.94 g

  • Length: 26 mm including bail

  • Setting: four-prong claw, open back, stone secure

Condition Very good antique/vintage condition. Light surface wear and gentle patina to the polished plate consistent with age, a little natural heat coloring on the bar. Cleaned, no repairs. Sold without chain.

A one-of-a-kind piece for anyone who collects antique cuts or wants a wearable rose cut without the price of a full antique mount. Also a good candidate stone for resetting into a ring.
